Running Accomplishments:

In 2014, I weighed 249 lbs. My doctor told me that I was in great health but all that could quickly change if I didn't lose weight and change habits. Before this while I was praying, I had a strong sense of God saying, "IF I called you to fast, you couldn't." In that moment I realized food had control over me. Both of these events spurred a change in my life. The doctor put me on a restricted calorie diet and my wife and I also purchased an elipitical trainer. After 4 and half months, I had lost 40lbs. It occurred to me one day that I would enjoy running outside rather than the eliptical. Then I was traveling in Greenville, SC and the hotel eliptical was broken. On September 19, 2014, I decided to run on the beautiful running trails and I ran/walked a mile and a half. When I got back to the hotel it was a great experience, and I started running 3 to 5 days a week. IN early December, I was running and I said to myself, I can run 13 miles, and I did. Then I signed up for the Hilton Head Half Marathon in February. I became a long distance runner. Almost three years later, I have run over 6000 miles and a number of races. I weigh 168lbs and I have gotten down as low as 162lbs, My race accomplishments are as follows: Half Marathons: Hilton Head 2015, Run Like A Nut 2016, Plametto (PR 1:40) 2016, Oak Island 2017; Pacing for Pieces 2017 Marathons: Myrtle Beach 2016, Savannah Marathon (PR: 3:53) 2016; Myrtle Beach 2017 5K: Sonoco 2016 (PR 00:21:37); Darlington Raceway Inagural Spring Fling - 1st Overall (22:28)

Short-Term Running Goals:

My goal overall for the next two years is to increase in speed and in endurance. In the next year, I would like to run a 3:45:00 Marathon. I am planning to run the Kiowa Island Marathon in 2017; Oak Island Marathon in 2018; Myrtle Beach Marathon 2018 and one more Marathon in 2018 to be determined. In terms of Half Marathons, I am set to run Sunset Beach 2017, Holden Beach 2017, Ocean Isle 2017. And I plan to run 4 Half Marathons in 2018 I will run some local 5ks and 10ks as well in the two years ahead.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want first to be a healthy runner who runs over my whole lifetime. I've had one injury due to failure to rest and to recovery after my first Half Marathon in Hilton. Over the past two years I have avoided injuries and hope to continue. I want to run the Boston Marathon by qualifying before I turn 53. I want to keep on running for the only reason I run now; for the pure pleasure and joy of running, and how it deepens my joy for living in God's creation, enjoying my family, and making new and interesting friends.

Personal:

I am married to a wonderful wife with two sons and a daughter. I am also a pastor which limits many of the races that I am able to run. I also don't run on Sunday at all, which I believe contributes to me being a healthier runner.
